Bourbonic reforms, both economic and political, recognized the need to stimulate mining by creating representative institutions like the Miners' Court and its regional branches. Through the minutes of the proceedings of this organism the author attempts to analyze how miners of Zacatecas formed a pressure group, participants in political life, and how this economic elite managed to extend its influence as far as Mexico City. Also this group is characterized by a significant duality: its modern economic strategies coexist with traditional social mores, typical of an old regime society.
