Abstract

Some writers have estimated that the Amerindian population of Boriken (Porto Rico) at the beginning of the Contact Period was high. A number of documentary sources and archaeological studies force us to question estimates. Given that Puerto Rico is considered one of the centers of the «Classic Taino», we believe that it is necessary to reevaluate the estimates for the whole region.
