During the period of Independence in Venezuela (1808-1830) it was the military element which structured both the political and social imaginary and the political practices. The object of this article is to analyse the (sometimes contradictorial) logics which take part not only in the definition of the modern political body (the citizens) but also in the elaboration of a system of values susceptible of constructing a shared «national» memory.
