Being one of the most significant concepts of political modernity, representation has an important part to play during the period of Independence in the hispanic world. Following the process in the Río de la Plata, this study aims to show how political representation is used by different actors. First of all, it is both used and controlled by the revolutionary government in order to conquest legitimacy, and, on the other hand, by the cities, in their struggle for the defense of their local interests and conquest of self government.
