Abstract


This article studies the life and work of Matías de Porres, Castilian medical doctor practising in Lima during the first decades of the 17th Century. His figure allows to analyze the sanitary structure of the Peruvian Viceroyalty as well as the transference of Castilian patterns to America, on the basis of original sources found in the Seville General Archives. Furthermore, Porres was the publisher of the first Peruvian medical project appeared in the Lima press (/Brief warnings to drink cold by means of snow/, Lima, 1621).
