Analyzes the subject of the credibility of Columbus' testimony regarding his sources of nautical information, suggesting the hypothesis of his possible personal bias. Apart from the limitations of the natives themselves, the author points to the logical lack of information on the part of the Spaniards, prejudices which arose in the reception of these testimonies, and Columbus' possible personal interest in «legitimizing» his own route.
