This article delves into the practices of administering first-instance justice in the municipal ground of minor quarters –administrative units dividing the city of Mexico since the end of the 18th century. Notably, we will aim to look at detentions and the subsequent trials of individuals of popular groups in the middle years of the 19th century as well as the discourse strategies and tactics used in front of such control and coercion mechanisms.
