Abstract

Through the case of oidor Quito Francisco de Prada, who got his daughter married off with an important member of the local elite, this article aims to reveal the aspirations, interests, conflicts and consequences generated in the Audiencia development by the constitution of a large and powerful social network. From a relation point of view, we have tried to provide a context for the reactions of the members of the Audiencia as well as determine the capacity of local institutions to solve the problems resulting from the firm decision of an oidor to violate the legal framework and of the elite to influence its workings.
