Abstract

In the last twenty years, contributions furnished by Archeology, Physical Anthopology, Linguistics, and Genetics have drammatically subverted the study of the origins of man in America. For example, through dental pieces Physical Anthropologists have obtained specimens resistant to post-mortem alterations directly related to evolutionary changes in the populations. At the same time, the study of genetic frequencies and changing distributions of genetic markers in American indigenous populations have yielded new information on settlement patterns and migration, rasing doubts about the archeological evidence of the earliest human migrations. The aim of this article is to offer an overview of this literature and the new questions aroused by it.
