Abstract

This work examines the use that Ethnographers of the American Southern Cone made of one of the ethnic names proposed for the Argentina pampa region by the British Jesuit Tomás Falkner. A similar revision might be made of many other names created for this and other neighbouring regions, a methodological exercise showing inconsistencies and compromising most of the specialized bibliography as well as other unexpected actors. In the present case the study is focused on two firms which contended in Court over a cheese brand —«Taluhet»— which took an ethnical name created by the above mentioned Jesuit. The analysis of these judicial documentation opens up interesting methodological and ideological reflexions which might be applied to other case studies.
