This article analyzes the weight of the «de-generation» and «re-generation» trends in the Latinamerican social ideas at the beginning of the 20th Century. It is discussed the way in which these influences took shape within an intense debate on «the Indian problem». In this debate a group of intellectuals known as «the Guatemalan Anthropology pioneer generation» played a decisive role.
