Abstract

In the final defeat of «cacique» in 1788, it played a decisive role the firm consolidation of the alliance between the pehuenches and the colonial administration. This latter was worried with the maintenance of the regional commerce circuits, the supply of salt —a critical issue the supply of which was ensured by the said allies— and the security of Cuyo and the space between the capital city of the Viceroyalty and Chile, which was under permanent attack by the irreducible «lonko» of the Ranqueles.
