Abstract

The banana is not original of America. Its arrival in the New Continent dates back to the beginning of 17th Century, where it soon became a food commodity in areas such as Cuba and the Caribbean. Furthermore, in the Oriente area of the Island it found geographical and historical conditions that favoured its expansion for export purposes as from early 19th Century. This article analyzes the route followed by the banano tree to America and its trajectory and cultural assimilation in Great Antilla.
