This article reviews the laws and policies that, following the revolution, led to the deportation from Mexico of Spanish nationals. The first section explains the constitutional provisions that granted authority to the president to deport any foreigners whose presence was considered «inconvenient». The article also provides a quantitative sample of the Spaniards who were deported. Finally, an analysis of the deportation practices is presented through a study of the accusations made against them and the procedures that Mexican authorities implemented as a result.
