Abstract

In 1827, Mexico began a process that lead, the following year, to the first expulsion of Spaniards. This article studies the particular case which took place in the state of Puebla. It examines a specific group Spaniards who were exempted from the expulsion, which encompasses some 163 persons who, through the details stated by them in their sworn declarations -recorded in documents not explored until now-, offered a profile which, in spite of variations, was similar to the general profile of Spaniards who preceded them.
