Abstract

This article describes the practice of «positional inheritance» at the curacazgo and imperial levels as a form of dynastic succession. In a wider context, it argues that the process of converting oral traditions and myths into a historical narrative commonly accepted in a colonial setting was deficient and must be de-centered.
