Abstract


This article deals with the Catalan enterprises in the Spanish colonial space, focusing on the Caribbean area and projecting therefrom on other American regions. The Catalans took the main part in the early phases of economical «globalization». They took advantage of the early processes of specialization aimed at a world economy through trade, shipping services and financial instrumentation.
