Abstract

Considering the value of myths in oral traditions, in the behaviour of aboriginal populations, and in the formations of the «identity» of a racially mixed nation, the author attempts to evaluate the significance of geographical phenomena in Venezuelan Indian mythology, as preserved in colonial and contemporary records. The demographic situation of Venezuelan Indians suggests the comparative analysis of myths and ceremonies related with those same geographical features.
