This study, based on abundant unpublished materials, is an attempt to redeem the personality and work of an outstanding Peruvian intellectual, the author, among other works, of Peru in Arms, which narrates the irruption in the Pacific Ocean of the Dutch pirate Jacques L'Hermite and the siege of Callao in 1624, but whose manuscript is at present in an unknown location.
