After a brief look at territorial limits and the problems it caused in the years of Conquest, the author analyzes the institutions of government, public treasury and justice, and the functions of their officials, during the colonial period. The Audience stands out in the general overview as an organism of the first importance, though, on a lower level, the corregimientos (local authorities) are considered not less so, and are examined with special attention.
