Abstract

Several years of excavations in northern Haiti (1982-87) have permitted the location and identification of La Navidad and the village of chief Guacanacaric, who helped Columbus in 1492. The En Bas Saline site is the taino chief's village location and also that of La Navidad. The excavations have yielded information about human settlements before and after European presence.
