Abstract

In order to reveal the extraordinary development of Botany in the Spanish Enlightenment's reform movement, this article studies in detail the inclusion of Spanish names in the generic nomenclature which became generally accepted after the eighteenth century thanks to Linnaeus' influence. The professional quality of chosen authors is also statistically analyzed, as well as the permanent or transitory fortune of the original Spanish names, in the context of the peculiar characteristics of Hispanic scientific history.
