The Demographic Effect of Epidemics after the Discovery of America

The Discovery of America brougth into contact two human groups which were carriers of infectious diseases and had different immunological histories. This had incalculable demographic effects with profound social, political and economic consequences. In fact it was the main cause of the American Indian population decline; a simple and unsurprising explanation, because any important population change is the result of epidemics.
