This article studies the principal features of the scientific activities of the Americanist historian, naturalist and traveller Marcos Jiménez de la Espada (1831-1898), according to the methodological model proposed by Bruno Latour and Xavier Polanco, which attempts to establish the multiple connections existing between the social and cultural context in which scientists live and their ideas.
