Resumen

Este ensayo analiza comparativamente los prejuicios socio-raciales y las aspiraciones igualitarias de las élites de «color quebrado» de Jamaica, Venezuela, y las Antillas Francesas. El objetivo es mostrar cómo esos factores incidieron sobre la actividad política de los miembros de ese sector, sobre todo durante el período revolucionario y la era abolicionista. Sostenemos que dicha actividad tuvo consecuencias opuestas, incidiendo tanto sobre la perpetuación como sobre el fin de los regímenes discriminatorios instaurados durante la época colonial.
