Ambivalence of colonial representations: indigenous leaders and Zambos of the Mosquito Coast at the end of the eighteenth century

In this article it is considered that the Anglicisation of the Miskitu Zambo and Indian leaders is one of the so many expressions that assume the ambivalence that governs the colonial relations. The main argument that guides this analysis is the Miskitu assimilation of English customs constitutes a strategy that tends to guarantee the social ascent of the group and not an expression of the control exerted by the Englishmen.
