Abstract


This article analyzes what the author called the «process of sacralization» of King Ferdinand VII’s image in New Spain, and its political and ideological consequences in the Mexican Independence War. The people’s believes, values and attitudes towards the Monarchy were an essential part of the local political culture. These played a decisive role in the course of political and social events of the period.
