The aim of this paper is to analyse the causes of contradiction between the horizontal conception of the cosmos sustained by some of the mbyá-guaraní of Misiones (Argentina) with most others versions of the guaraní literature that postulate mixed vertical / horizontal configurations. Also, to analyse the reasons by which the ethnographers consider the aquatic obstacle to reach the landwithout- evil is a sea instead of a river. For these purposes, are presented a synthesis of the mbyá conception of the cosmos and its representation in rituals, an analysis of some words and central concepts considered in different works, and some evidences of a certain degree of ethnocentric intromissions and acriticism which affect the analysis and interpretation about cosmological dimension, and even some translations.
