This is a reconstruction of the biography of Felipe de Cáceres, who was born in Madrid and who participated in nearly all the events of the original conquest of the River Plate and Paraguay, where he eventually became govemor and was forced out of office by the bishop on the grounds of a false acousation of heresy. An ambitious intriguer, Cáceres is representative of the generality of conquerors of Paraguay, a country whose colonization presents special characteristics.
