Abstract

When Antonio Dávalos, newly appointed treasurer of the royal caja in Lima, embarks in 1582, he took him a select library of ninety seven volumes. Packed in two bundles, the first contained mainly historical works (Ocampo, Zurita, Garibay, Illescas ... ), literary works (Santillana, Manrique, Garcilaso, Sannazaro, León Hebreo ... ), and scientific works (Francisco Díaz, Pérez de Vargas, Arfe ... ); while the second bundle, rather smaller in size, included mainly religious and pious works (Luis de Granada, Antonio de Guevara, Gregario Magno, Pedro Ciruelo ... ). Publishes the complete shipping-bill, and gives a short biography of the treasurer together with a brief analysis of his library.
