Abstract

A study of a sector of the colonial army (the militia) and of its organization and maintenance in the indendancy of Valladolid, with special attention to the two sectors that constituted its officers: professional soldiers, sent to the provincial regiments with the mission of training the troops, and the militia officers, who were members of the local elites and at an early date took control of these regiments.
