Towards the end of the nineteenth century, the practice of charity was restructured in Buenos Aires. The city was changing its physionomy and becoming a world in which pouerty insanity and delinquency were rife. It is of interest to analyze the role played by hygienic doctors in this new social and economic environment. They took an interest in the most appressed sectors of society in an attempt to achieve their integration in institutionally organized social environments.
