Imprecisions in the quantification of forced emigration of Negro slaves to America can new be somewhat clasified by virtue of a detailed document conserved in the General Archive of Simancas. In the years 1544 to 1550, the document details the importation of 12,908 Negress: 2,467 «piezas» to New Spain, 1,175 to Hispaniola, 1,869 to South America, etc. Names of merchants and slave traders are given, whether as individuals or as associates of companies, together with information on number of licenses, captain of the slave ship, and often, its destination.
