Among the historiographical lagoons of Spanish Americanism, the indigenous world is, undoubledly, one of the areas which have been less studied. This is because of the vision held by Spanish Americanist of the American continent -conquered and colonized- a view that still influences present modes of thought. What we wish to stress is that America was not a land without population. Its indigenous peoples have been forgotten by the Spanish Americanist tradition, though, rather than 'anti-indigenist', has tended to lack a historical perspective that included the native peoples of the New World.
