The concentration process in the tobacco industry originated from the control exerted on it as of 1860 by a small group of remarkable economic and political power. The study of this process comprises not only the analysis of the economic and social triggering factors and the entreprenurial action implementing it, but also the inflow of ,foreign capital and foreign investments in Cuban tobacco manufacture between 1860 and 1898. This latter phenomenon is accountable for the process of industrial degradation and decapitalization of the national tobacco industry.
