One of the most relevant aspects of the reform of overseas commerce and trade carried out during the reign of Philipp V is to be sought in the new rules and regulations for commerce with the Far East. As of 1720 metal shipments were strictly regulated, as well as the weight and balance of the ship, with the aim of reducing the losses suffered by the merchant fleets. The legislative bustle and its impact of the Philippine Islands constitute the core of this study.
