Abstract

Mexico made serious efforts to integrate Spanish American nations, after Lucas Alamán supported in 1825 the idea of a permanent assembly to encourage union and treaties of friendship and trade among the new nations which emerged out of the Spanish empire. The author considers that this assembly had similar features to those of a Family Pact. The article closely follows the efforts of Mexican diplomats in London, Bogotá, Caracas and Lima up to 1847.
