This article examines certain basic aspects of the Memoires of Juan Bautista Tupac Amaru, half-brother of the famous Andean revolutionary, following the author's detention, trial, long imprisonment and posterior return to Buenos Aires, from a new perspective. The text represents a fundamental testimony in the debate on the indigenous identity of America.
