It has been my intention to analyze the role of the economic societes and the Cuerpo de Ingenieros de Montes in relation with the rational use of the Philippine's forests, since the last quarter of the 18th century until the end of the Spanish administration. From a commercial point of view lacking any conservationist awareness, the necessity of a rational use of the forests will be obvious for the forestry experts along the 19th century, but because of the survival of outdated practises and a scarce institutional support on economic and staff matters their conservationist efforts were fruitless.
