The object of this article is to study the most significant changes that took place in Guarayos (NW of Santa Cruz Department, Bolivia), as a consequence of the secularization of the Franciscan Missions approved in 1938/39 and the implantation of the «Delegación Nacional de Guarayos», a state institution that was in charge of completing the incorporation to the «nation» of the Guarayos population. We will focus particularly on the «administradores», new «managers» of both territories and goods that through the connivance of their superiors and the incapacity of the State to set presence in the region, held complete power between 1939 and 1948 and were the main responsible actors of the economic decay and depopulation of the region.
