Viceroy Jose Fernando de Abascal is a polemical figure in the peruvian historiography. The studies that through nineteenth and twentieth centuries evaluated his government and also the power space of his time were conditionated by many juncture circunstances that are the main reflection of this historiographic balance. This article concentrated on the peruvian nationalism of XIXth and XXth centuries, on the social theory of the emancipation arised in the Spain of general Francisco Franco, on the socio-economic interpretation appeared under the celebration of the Sesquicentenary of the peruvian independence, and finally on the recent researchs made under political culture perspective.
