Abstract


The introduction of evolutionism in Cuba in the middlc of the nineteenth century caused a series of long debates, which were manifested in the publications of Cuban scientific institutions. Los Anales of the Academy of Medical, Physical and Natural Sciences, and the Revista de Cuba, of the Anthropological Society of the Island of Cuba. In addition, the study of the composition of the Cuban Anthropological Society reveals the philosophical and political position of its members, who belonged to the Cuban-born elite.
