Abstract

In the construction of Venezuela as a national state, historiography played a fundamental role, primarily insof ar as it helped established the territorial basis of a nationality which was difficult to define. In addition, the historiographical discourse was charged with recuperating the collective memory of the population and giving form to a national representation of itself.
